Appropriation of The Department of Defense From The Federal Budget - Essay Example According to the Department of Defense, the Bush administration in the US has fought the war on terror on the offensive to counter any proposed, planned terror attacks and to uproot terror camps in places such as Afghanistan and Iraq. The Defense department has claimed that the US military has been able to remove threats to US security in Afghanistan and Iraq and has liberated 50 million people of these countries. The Defense department has also claimed that it has raised pay levels for US service men and women and the rise in pay levels has been 21% with expanded targeted pays and bonuses. The military personnel and their families are also provided with better services and housing through new constructions and privatization. The defense budget has also shown an increased spending by 26% and this has been able to transform the Nation's defenses with the largest increase in military spending recorded since the Reagan administration. To improve readiness rates, transformational and joi nt training program has also been launched in the defense department with increased research and development funding by 56%. The Defense department has also claimed that there has been doubled investments in missile defense systems and the first ever land and sea based systems have been deployed (provided by the Department of Defense statement, 2005). The US defense agenda thus seems to be based on a war on terror, improving housing quality of military personnel, increased research and development in defense sectors, and increased pay for military personnel. The Department of defense gives further arguments in favour of an increased defense budget since the time of Reagan's presidential administration. According to the Department of Defense, the following reasons of Defense spending have been advanced. According to the Department of Defense, the Bush administration's agenda and defense spending - advances and promotes US' ongoing efforts in the Global War on Terror; provides for $401.7 billion of Defense Department's base budget, and this indicates an annual increase of seven percent, for a total increase in defense spending of 35 percent since 2001; makes considerable progress in transforming the Department to meet new threats and prepared to face new challenges; and continues improvements in the quality of life for US military personnel and their families by providing them with higher pay and better homes. (Department of Defense, 2005) Global war on terror and the need to meet new threats seem to have shaped the defense budget and increased defense spending to a whopping $401.7 billion with an annual increase of 7% and a total increase of as high as 35% since 2001. In comparison, China's Defense budget has also increased from $22 billion to nearly $30 billion in 2005. Thus although US defense spending seems to have shown a steady rise since the September 11 attacks in 2001, China's defense budget has shown drastic increases after 2002. Kadohata's The Story Devils: An Overview   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The Story Devils, by Cynthia Kadohata is a look into the life of a young girl looking to protect her family in any way possible. The story is based on a real life experience of the author and shows how we can, at times, let the devil in ourselves come out and play. The author, now living in Los Angeles, writes this as almost a warning; but the reader gets the feeling that she would do what she did again, in a second.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The story takes place after World War II in the town of Chesterville, Arkansas. It was a small town with small town problems, and had a Japanese community living within it. The story was written in 1989 and reflect the uncertainties of the post World War II period. Within the small community there lived a woman that had been through a recent divorce, and was raising three children, Kate, the author, and her brother Sean. Because the mother is having a problem making ends meet, she begins to go to church and meets the antagonist, Mr. Mason.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The story is told by the author in the body and mind of an eight year old. It is a first-person narration and she is playing the part of the protagonist. The point of view remains constant throughout the story, which gives you only the viewpoint of the author to get facts from. Although this may be a possibly unreliable perspective, due to selective memory, the story is told in a straightforward manner suggesting truth and honesty.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  During the story the author realizes that Mr. Mason is a violent man. This is learned through several instances, such as when he forced the mother into a crying fit in her bedroom in the beginning of the story. He was also violent when he threw a rock at a young boy that had wandered over to the yard to play. These incidents forced the author to do something that she did not relish, but deemed necessary in order to save her family from this man; since she new her mother was planning on marrying him. She lied to her mother and told her that Mr. Mason had hit her. At first it wasn't believed, but when her quiet sister Kate backed up her story, the mother sought to separate herself from this man. The family moved to Chicago and the author never saw Mr. Mason again.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  As was stated before, the story was believable because of the author's almost relenting of a story that she had kept inside for a long time.

Worst Day Of Life

The worst day of my life was when I lost my thumb it was very painful I was emotionally scared and I cant play video games like normal people. I lost my thumb when I was only a few years old and it hurt a lot. It got taken off in a bike chain. Thats how I lost my thumb. Im not able to play video games like normal people play. My thumb is always sliding off the buttons. It always hard to keep up when playing video games with my friends. Its really annoying to play. Im not as accurate when playing games. I always die a lot in the games I play. Also I lose a lot when Im playing two player games. I cant move my thumb as fast as normal people. I end up in last often in games. I get problems holding things. That is what disadvantages I have when playing video games. When I lost my thumb it was very painful. My thumb was ripped off painfully in a bike chain. I think I should have sued the people that made the stupid bike. When it fell off it was just sitting there and that was bad. When it got cut off it was gushing lots of blood. There was blood every where. When this happened the carpet was soaked in blood it was weird. Then they took me to the hospital and they stitched it up because they couldnt put it back on because it was cut into small pieces. They had to but a cast on to. It was different when they took it off because I didnt have a thumb and that was different. Thats what were some painful things about my thumb being ripped off. It emotionally sacred me for life. I was never the same. I couldnt hold a cup that easy. It made it hard to write. Ive always and forever be a freak. People call me a freak. Its really funny looking. Ill never be like the normal people. They laugh at my missing thumb. I cant always join into normal activities of normal people. Thats why I sacred for life forever. Thats why the worst day of my life was when I lost my thumb. It was bad because that was my most painful experience I have ever had. It sacred me emotionally forever. I can never be the same.

There are four classes (grades 6-9) and are referred to as sixià ¨me, cinquià ¨me, quatrià ¨me and troisià ¨me. Students are prepped to either continue their education at a traditional lycà ©e or push more towards technical classes. The curriculum for college consists of math, history, geography, technical education, art, music, and physical education. The bac is needed in order get into universities or prep schools. The term baccalaurà ©at refers to the diploma and the examinations. the baccalaureate is an exam, that students either pass or fail. It is impossible to pass in one subject and fail in others. The weighted average must be at least 10/20 for students to pass.
